President's Message                            2020-21 Theme Full Color Printed Lapel Magnet Pin CRS Marketing

At our last meeting, Ken shared a great idea where members use their unspent Meeting breakfast monies, Happy Dollars and 50/50 reserves to purchase a gift certificate from a restaurant or local business and then donating it to the Online Auction. It not only helps the Online Auction, it also supports local businesses, many of whom have been hardpressed by COVID related circumstances. Let the business know you’re a Rotarian donating the certificate for the Auction.

Planning for the Memorial Garden dedication is under way. Likely the best time to have the dedication will be a Sunday before the end of October. I expect to have more details available shortly.

On Saturday Sept 5th, DG Mark Chipman, his wife Leslie, and AG Brenda Hellyer, volunteered to work the 9-11 am shift at Bottles. I love the picture below because it shows Ken, very animatedly, sharing a great story. We were lucky that the shift started slowly enough for our guests to get a handle on the bottle processing because shortly after this picture was taken, the storm hit, and everyone was hustling. Mark, Leslie and Brenda did a great job keeping up with the load – thank you for joining us Saturday!

One more item for this week, The Rotary Club of Brighton is having their Annual Interclub BBQ and Karaoke Singing Competition (without the BBQ this year). Submissions to be submitted by September 30 with the winners announced on October 7. If you didn’t receive the notice from the Brighton Club, I would be happy to forward it to you…maybe Wellington would like to enter a team.

President Howard Ziedenberg

Wellington Rotary Memorial Garden

The Rotary Memorial Garden at the foot of West Street, where the road meets the Millennium Trail and where the Rotary kiosk and comfort station is located, is complete.  The Memorial Garden is intended to honour deceased Wellington Rotarians, and respective memorial plaques have been attached to the arbour uprights.  A dedication ceremony will be scheduled for next month.  The spot has quickly become a welcome rest-stop for community members and tourists and cyclists using the Millennium Trail.   Many people passing by have expressed their appreciation and approval of the new Rotary Memorial Garden.

Domaine Darius Wellington Rotary Red Cuvee
Wellington Rotary and Domain Darius winery present
David Gillingham's limited edition Rotary Cuvee 2018.

The idea of a Rotary wine to raise fund for the new hospital building fund was hatched by Past President Brian McGown and winemaker David Gillingham.

The result is David's unique and exquisite blend of Marquette & Petite Pearl.  The Marquette was sourced from Brian & Lyn McGowan's Hollyhill vineyards.  Rotarians hand-picked the Petite Pearl grapes from a vineyard in Waupoos.  100% of sales go to PEC Hospital Foundation.

Rotary Song Lyrics:

R-O-T-A-R-Y, that spells Rotary.
R-O-T-A-R-Y, is known on land and sea.
From north to south, and east to west,
They profit most who serve the best,

Four Way Test
Of the things we think, say, and do:
           1.  Is it the TRUTH?
           2.  Is it FAIR to all concerned?
           3.  Will it build GOODWILL and better
                FRIENDSHIPS?
           4.  Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
