President's  Message

Driving home from the east coast can be a little bit of a challenge. You're filled with
great memories from your holiday and then you have to face the hours of driving
home. It was a trip that we have made many times, but not really one I was looking forward to for this particular trip. Instead of driving the same route, we decided to take a side trip to PEI. It is one place that has always been on my bucket list.

There are two ways to get onto the island, the Confederation Bridge, a 13 km track from the main land, or by ferry boat. The ferry takes you to the south east side of the island and takes 75 minutes.

We took the ferry over to the island and decided to do some touring along the
coast with the intention of find accommodation in the Cavendish area on the
north shore.

Once you get off of the ferry to take the coastal route, you find that there is open
fields and farm land with little to no traffic. People on the streets waive to you as
you pass by.

As we drove through the small villages, you see signs posted for Rotary clubs. You
wonder how many people are in each club, it can’t be many you think?

Time didn’t allow us to stop to enquire, but the presence of the Rotary signs shows that they are present even in the rural areas and it comes to mind of our theme for this year Rotary Connects the World.

Last Week: Club Forum

In the absence of President Dave, past President Phyo chaired the meeting

Since the Club Forum meeting follows the meeting of the club Board of Directors, the majority of the business discussed constituted Officer and Director reports plus motions and items coming out of the Board.

Secretary Howard reported on correspondence to the club over the last month. This included letters of thanks and appreciation for club donations and work.

Sharon provided an update on the extensive media coverage of the club over the previous month which has been particularly busy. Newspaper clippings were circulated mentioning the Field of Dreams, our Fund Raiser for the hospital building project, the Big Cheque presentation to support the Back to school kits from the Food Bank, and coverage on County FM of our fund raising event for the hospital.

Trudy provided a financial report for July, the first month in the Rotary Year. The Bottle Depot receipts indicate it has been an exceptionally period.

Phyo made a detailed presentation of the 10 items in the Member Survey and indicated an electronic copy of the results would be sent to all members. He also reported on the donations made by the Board or recommended to the club for the month.

The club discussed the inclusion of the Rotary song and the Toast to the Queen as part of our opening activities, and voted to retain both.

Rotary Song Lyrics:

R-O-T-A-R-Y, that spells Rotary.
R-O-T-A-R-Y, is one big family
From north to south,
and east to west,
He profits most who serves the best,
R-O-T-A-R-Y, that spells Rotary

Four Way Test
Of the things we think, say, and do:
1.  Is it the TRUTH?
2.  Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3.  Will it build GOODWILL and better
     FRIENDSHIPS?
4.  Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
