The meeting was called to order by President Roger at 7:07 am. 35 Rotarians were present with 3 guests (speakers Corey Englesdorfer and Albert Paschkowiak, and guest Amy Bodman).
Roger held a moment of silence for the Toronto Maple Leafs (!). He then read a Rotary reflection.
‘O’ Canada’ was sung. David Hawkins recited an invocation. Breakfast was served.
Roger enquired about the health of members. John Heeringa received favourable news from his oncologist that he is in remission.
Peter introduced guest speaker Corey Englesdorfer (Editor of the Times, Wellington councillor) and Albert Paschkowiak (director of environmental services).
Corey and Albert provided an update on proposed plans for Wellington beach development. Much of the proposed changes address the accumulation of beach sediment and recession of the dunes. Dredging of the channel is required every 2-3 years and is very expensive. Solutions to this problem include purchasing our own dredger or extending the jetty. They also discussed increasing the grade on beach road to improve drainage and reduce potholes. They also intend to extend the beach walking path westward. They plan on formalizing the parking space at the beach such that vehicles would no longer be able to drive onto the sand. There was a robust question and answer period. Many of the questions concerned how our Rotary club can assist with the proposed beach redevelopment.
Cathy thanked Corey and Albert for their presentation. In addition Ken thanked Corey for his invaluable service as our councillor.

Roger told his joke of the week. The happy toonie jar was passed around.
Mike’s ticket was drawn for the 50/50 draw – everyone was rooting for him but, alas, he failed to pull the ace of spades.
The meeting concluded with the 4-way test.
