President's  Message

Well, I have survived my first two weeks as your new club president.  There is nothing like hitting it right off the start,  with the passing of one of our long time members and Past President, Art Sinclair.  I was very glad to see so many of our members attend Art’s memorial service, led by our very own Rev. David Hawkins, with a tribute to Art by Past President Brian McGowan.  Nicely done, gentlemen.

Art will be greatly missed by the club.
It shows how we rally and pull things together as a team and community leaders.

I was further impressed at last week's meeting, listening to Rotary PACT life coaching alumni Liam Smith speak about his experiences at the RYLA event. As I mentioned during happy bucks, it was great to see the expressions of happiness and agreement on everyone's faces as Liam spoke.

There are so many different aspects and functions of Rotary that lend to good things in life. This was one of them. Our monetary contribution was minimal, but the rewards that Liam reaped from his experiences will be forever lasting. I can’t help but feel that Liam will become a community leader himself one day.

On a side note, we are in the process of compiling a survey to send out to our members to see how and what we can do to make our club the best club that we can. Once we understand what you want, we will be able to make adjustments as desired.

Dave Robinet
President 2019-2020

Last Week: Liam Smith

Liam Smith was one of the youths that have benefitted from the Rotary's PACT life coaching program headed by David Locke and delivered by Will Manos in Belleville and Quinte area. Liz Bosma from our club is the program's first ambassador.

Our Club has been a strong supporter of the PACT life coaching program, and we were able to sponsor Liam to attend the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) program that took place this year.

Liam shared with the Club his experiences at that RYLA event. Liam said that he found RYLA to be a life changing experience.  He met friends that he continues to see, and he intends to continue his relationship with Wellington Rotary.  He was a very engaging speaker.

President's Address from the July 2nd Club Meeting

We apologize that we were not able to publish the July 9th Club Bulletin.  It was growing pains as we convert to the new Bulletin feature provided in the web based ClubRunner system.   The following is the gist of our new President Dave Robinet's address to the Club:
  • This year's theme is Rotary Connects the World.
  • Our Club has good reputation in the community. We need to maintain and advance it through our activities.
  • We have strong relationships and fellowship amongst members. We need to sustain that with meetings that are fun and have get togethers more often. Suggestion to have Sunday broom ball sessions int he winter.
  • Keep members engaged. About 10% of our members are not active at all.  We need to encourage all members to engage.  Bring 1 friend to volunteer at the bottle depot.
  • T-shirts for Friends of Rotary is a good idea.
  • Draw on resources from WOTL.  Get visibility with WOTL residents association.
  • Use Social media to boost presence via Instagram & FB.  Engage expertise to boost number of followers.
  • Grow memberships by 2 new members this year.
  • Assess golf fundraiser event's viability. June is a very busy month.
  • Continue to support International projects.  Work with Rotary Club of Panama to assist in Global Grant.
  • Training session for club members and friends of Rotary for bottle depot operations.  PP Mike Lattner to convene.
  • How do guests to our meeting view our club?  Should we continue to sing the Rotary song?  Shall we tell a joke instead? Vote next week to decide whether to continue to sing.
  • Use Survey Monkey to survey members.
  • PP Brian McGowan suggested that we continue to keep in touch with spouses of deceased members.
  • Lana Whittaker will help with Instagram and FB.
