President's Message
The Wellington Rotary Club had another busy weekend as our volunteers were out in full force supporting the Pumkinfest Celebrations, working at the Bottle Depot and of course preparing for our Dinner Dance/Auction Event.
"Happy Days are Here Again", was the theme for our Dinner/Dance that took place on Saturday evening. It was wonderful to see 160 people enjoying a great evening, with a roast beef dinner, a few drinks and most of all the entertainment provided by the amazing, "Reasons" Band. The dance floor was full most of the evening, and it was fun to see so many people dressed in the 50s and 60s theme.
The Rotary Online Auction was very successful with bidding taking place right up until 9PM. At closing the total raised was in excess of $13,000. With proceeds of the 50/50 draw and ticket sales this event will have exceeded its goal of raising $15,000. These funds will be donated to the local hospital to pay for badly need new equipment.
Special thanks goes out to Barry Davidson and Bill Pennell the Co-Chairs of the Dinner /Dance & Auction, their leadership is what made this event so successful. Special recognition also for Trudy and Phyo for their hard work in managing ticket sales and collecting payments and distribution of auction items. We appreciate the work of Lana and Christine and their volunteers who decorated the hall for everyone to enjoy. Finally, I want to thank all those local organizations who supported our online auction with donations and of course all the people who bid online. It was truly a wonderful event and another great example of Rotarians showing our community how we support, "Service above Self."
The Rotary District Conference took place this weekend at the Nottawasaga Inn in Alliston. We were represented by our President Elect Lyn McGowan along with Rotarian Roger Tessier. We look forward to their update on the weekend events and any resolutions that were approved by the several hundred Rotarians in attendance.

Last Week: Birgit Wartenberg (Indigenous Peoples Partnership)
The meeting was opened on time by Pres. Ken at 7:07 a.m.. There were 26 members present with 2 guests: Barb Proctor, President of the Picton Rotary Club, and Raj who is sponsoring the whiskey tasting prize for the auction. The usual formalities including “God Save the King & Canada”, the Rotary Song and O Canada were practiced.
Picton Pres. Barb announced that the Picton Club will be holding a Ukranian Dinner event on November 8, 2022 at 5pm at the Picton Community Centre Rotary Hall. It will be Ukranian cuisine and entertainment, $100/person, with a silent auction. Anyone wanting to attend please contact Barb after the meeting or contact a Picton Rotarian.
Today's guest speaker was Birgit Wertenberg from the Belleville Rotary Club. she is also the chair of the Indigenous Peoples Partnership Cluster (IPPC), whose mission is to partner with various indigenous communities to help improve the lives of indigenous peoples. Birgit walked the audience through the new website for the IPPC. The website address is: https://rotaryindigenouscluster.org for more details of the various initiatives and projects undertaken by the group. Their motto is "We Listen, We Learn, We respond" to the needs of indigenous communities. Whenever they engage with a community, it is always with partnership of the community leaders, and the communities are asked to share some of the logistics and costs, so that they are "invested" in the program. Some examples of their initiatives, which are quite many to name them all here, are "Kids Against Hunger", "Kairos Blanket Exercise", Fort Albany ventilation fans, Fort Hope sports equipment, Little Trout Lake, Nibinamik life jackets, Tipi Moza backpacks, Iqualuit Christmas hampers, education bursaries, etc.. The group is made up of five Rotary Clubs: Belleville, Palgrave, Cataraqui (Kingston), Trewnton, and Wellington. (Rotary Club of Wellington contributed $2,000 towards education bursaries last year)
In other club business, Bottle Bill made reference to the large number new Friends of Rotary (FoR) helping out at the depot, and congratulated Peter Campbell for his recruitment efforts.
For Pumpkinfest, we have six volunteers to assist in the weighing, but because of all the other activities going on at the same time we've run out of volunteers to participate in the parade this year.
For the Annual Fundraiser Dinner, Lana requested volunteers to help decorate the hall at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
After the four way test, the meeting adjourned shortly after 8:10 a.m.
