The Club observed a moment of silence in respect of the passing of Past President Brian McGowan, as a set of pictures of Brian was projected on the screen.
Treasurer Trudy Brown provided the financials update for the month of August 2019.
Donations from Stew Jones of $1625 and from Maria Garcesa of $260 from the events of Waterweek have been received and the funds will be targeted towards beach or waterfront related initiatives. We will need to recognize the contributions formally with Stew and Maria.
Secretary Howard Ziedenberg provided an update on the progress he has made in contacting CML Snider scholarship award winners for this year.
The Board is looking for a Director to replace Brian McGowan. The portfolio will be process and procedures Director.
Alex Mayeski has resigned from the Club due to a job opportunity in Toronto which will require her to be in Toronto for most of the time. President Dave Robinet will be assuming the responsibility of scheduling speakers for Rotary meetings until he can find someone to take it on.
We are still looking to find a volunteer to replace Liz Bosma for D&D project. Michelle Kosoy volunteered to step in and together with President Dave Robinet will address the needs for the D&D project. Ted Nash and Kristen Nash will continue to work with the distribution and sales of the books.
The Rotary Club of Wellington will sponsor the Federal Election All Candidates Meeting on Monday Sept 30 at Highlne Hall at 6:30 p.m. Barry provided the details of them planned event.
Upgrading of the Millennium Trail in the Wellington segment is underway. Volunteers are needed on Tues, Wed, Thurs afternoon to clear the brushes.
The Board approved the donation of $200 to the Guatemala Literacy Project. The project is a Global Grant project whereby there is a 6 X multiplier effect on our donations.
David Smith proposed that the Club approve to set a target of $400,000 for the New Hospital Capital Fund, so that the Rotary Club of Wellington will have naming rights for the waiting room in the emergency ward of the New Hospital. All in favour. None opposed.
Sharon Campbell provided an update on the PR exposure that the club has received this month: cheque presentation at PEFAC, advertising of Rotary wine.
Volunteers are needed for Pumpkinfest on Oct 19th. Howard Z in charge of coordinating pumpkin weighing team. Bill Mitchell in charge of Rotary float.
