President's Message
I was recently going through the October issue of Rotarian Magazine and felt very humbled by the articles and photos that are in the magazine.
We live in a part of the world where we are very fortunate and we take a lot of things for granted.
For the most part, we live a healthy life and have many things at our disposal. We have clean water for drinking, cooking and washing our clothes. We have electricity at our disposal to heat our homes, cook with and light to see in the dark, just at the flick of a switch.
So you might say that we are rich. Rich, in the sense that we have basically anything that we want, including health care. In some parts of the world many people don’t have the luxuries that we have.
I am sure that you will all agree that we are thankful for the many Rotarians worldwide that help to make lives & health in other countries a little better by the efforts that they do to help that process.
World Polio Day is On October 24th. with the efforts of all of us that support causes through Rotary, we are helping to build better lives.
We can all do a little to help the cause. We can talk to our friends and families and encourage them to make a contribution to Rotary International. It doesn’t matter how little they contribute, it all helps.
Encourage your friends and family to have a viewing party to watch Rotary’s Online Global Update. Remember, from every dollar raised, that money is matched 2 - to – 1, by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
For more details, pick up the October issue of Rotarian Magazine and review some of the articles.

Last Week: Barb Sweet, PEC Library
Barbara Sweet, Chair of the Prince Edward County Library provided an update on the libraries in the County, in particular, the Wellington Library.
The Wellington Library holds the archives for the County. The library budget supports all operating costs for the library, such as collection, meeting rooms, utilities, salaries, etc.. Funding for the library is 80% from the County. Overall budget for the Library system in the County is $1 million.
The Wellington Branch is a community library. In the County, about 2500 people per week visit the library, with about 10,000 items per month being checked-out. The ratio is about 50% Picton, 25% Wellington, and 25% the rest of the County.
Impact of digital content at the library has been good. eBooks allow people to check-out books electronically and is ideal when you are travelling or when you want need items that are not readily available at the local branch. However, many people still prefer the paper book, and kids like the paper picture books.
Areas for improvement in the Wellington Library are improving the archive and the space for the archives, and just general upkeep of the building and facilities
Progressive Conservative candidate Tim Durkin dropped in for coffee and to meet and greet with Rotarians. He apologized for only being at part of the All Candidates' meeting last Monday, due to a conflicting meeting. He answered a couple of questions from the floor.
R-O-T-A-R-Y, that spells Rotary.
R-O-T-A-R-Y, is known on land and sea.
From north to south, and east to west,
They profit most who serves the best,
R-O-T-A-R-Y, that spells Rotary.

Four Way Test
Of the things we think, say, and do:
1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it build GOODWILL and better
FRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
