President's Message

Every week in preparation for the Tuesday morning meeting, we check the Rotary website for birthdays and anniversaries.

As you will recall, last week I announced two special anniversaries. John Inwood was celebrating his 23rd year in Rotary on the 1st of June and Pierre and Connie Lebrun were celebrating their 49th  wedding anniversary on the 5th of June.

Now let’s think about that for a minute. These are both two great milestones in each of their lives. When you think about what it takes for a couple to survive as a marriage for that length of time says a lot about those individuals. I don’t care who you are, no marriage is made in heaven and there are ups and downs in every relationship. But with any relationship that lasts for a long period of time like what Pierre & Connie has done it also says a lot about the people who work on building a strong foundation of friendship and love and working through whatever comes along.

The same goes for your involvement as a member in Rotary, as in John Inwood’s case. Twenty three years in Rotary is nothing to be sneezed at.  When you think about it, I have to say it is quite impressive as a matter of fact. It has meant being involved, volunteering, offering your help and guidance and sharing your knowledge with fellow club members.

So the question is, what is it about Rotary that keeps you coming back week after week, month after month and so on?  Is there some correlation between long term relationships in marriage and Rotary or is it just the fact that these are just great people?

We all see things a little differently and have different expectations out of life. We get out of life what we put into it.

I would like to say congratulations again on your milestones. We thank you for your involvement in Rotary and being pillars of the community, as you set great examples and are looked up to by many of us in the club.

Now is a good time to be thinking about renewing your Rotary membership for the 2020/21 Rotary year.

Last Week:
Gillian Raymond (Scouts Canada)

Meeting (via Zoom video conference)  called to order by President Dave Robinet at 7:07 a.m.  25 Rotarians plus guest speaker Gillian Raymond from Scouts Canada present and accounted for.

Gillian Raymond has had her children in Scouts all along, and when she came to the County,  realized that there was no Scouts in Wellington.  So, in January 2019 the 1st Wellington PEC Scouts was formed.

The focus was on County service, with the Scouts joining in various events and outdoor activities like hiking, and geocaching.  The Scouts meet twice a month and has about 2 outings per month.   Supervision is provided by parents and other volunteers.

They also focus on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) activities. The Scouts have created crafts and have even sold some.

Age range is from 5 yrs to 10 yrs old for Beavers/Cubs.  They are currently considering where 11 year olds will go next.  There are currently 14 in the group and there is a sister group in Consecon.

The Scouts meet at the United Church on Wednesday evenings.  Currently the program is on hold pending the physical distancing limitations, but they hope to reconvene for the fall.

R-O-T-A-R-Y, that spells Rotary.
R-O-T-A-R-Y, is known on land and sea.
From north to south, and east to west,
They profit most who serve the best,
R-O-T-A-R-Y, that spells Rotary.

Four Way Test
Of the things we think, say, and do:
1.  Is it the TRUTH?
2.  Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3.  Will it build GOODWILL and better
     FRIENDSHIPS?
4.  Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
